Water Delivery for Dust Suppression

Universal Tankers delivers bulk non-potable water to keep dust under control on construction, demolition, groundworks and roadworks sites. Potable supplies are also available where your specification requires them. We fill bowsers, spray systems, storage tanks and road sweepers on site, with scheduled, one-off or emergency deliveries from 19 depots across England and Scotland.

With more than 20 years of experience and next-day service available anywhere across the country, Universal Tankers is well placed to support construction sites with responsive bulk water supply for dust suppression.

Bulk Water Supply for Dust Suppression and Construction Processes

Excavation, demolition, cutting, grinding, drilling, aggregate handling and vehicle movements all generate dust on construction sites. This can include silica dust, wood dust and other airborne particles that affect air quality across the site.

Where workers are exposed, dust poses health hazards and makes site operations harder to manage. It reduces visibility, spreads across access routes, settles on equipment and adds to cleaning requirements. Effective control supports safer working conditions, cleaner operations and fewer interruptions to daily works.

Universal Tankers supplies bulk non-potable water for regular damping down and water-based dust control. Our deliveries can fill bowsers, pressure washer units and fixed suppression systems across your site, giving contractors the volume needed to dampen haul roads, access routes, demolition areas, stockpiles and working zones before dust becomes difficult to contain.

Scheduled deliveries keep your equipment supplied throughout the project, through dry weather, heavy vehicle movement and excavation phases. This reduces reliance on limited mains access or restricted on-site storage, so your team is ready to respond as conditions change.

Typical uses include:

  • Haul roads and site access routes: damping down to reduce dust from plant and vehicle movements.
  • Demolition: suppressing dust during breaking, crushing and clearance work.
  • Stockpiles and aggregates: keeping spoil, sand and aggregate heaps damp to prevent wind-blown dust.
  • Cutting and earthworks: controlling dust during excavation, trenching and material processing.
  • Road sweepers: refilling sweeper tanks on roadworks and site entrances.
  • Bowser and spray system refills: topping up mobile bowsers, mist cannons and fixed spray systems.

Dust suppression is one part of our wider construction bulk water delivery service. The same fleet supports concrete works, equipment washdown and hydrostatic pressure testing, so one supplier covers your whole site’s water needs.

FAQs About Using Water as a Dust Suppression Solution

How can delivered water be stored?

Delivered water can be stored on site ready for later use in water tanks or water bowsers.

Dust suppression often requires water to be available throughout the working day for dampening haul roads, access routes, stockpiles and working areas. Stored water can also support dust suppression bowsers, pressure washer units and other water-fed dust suppression equipment when water is not required immediately after delivery.

Using water tanks or bowsers can allow sites to manage changing demand, particularly during dry weather, periods of high vehicle movement or works that generate airborne dust particles. This provides a practical way to maintain dust control without relying solely on mains water access.

What is the difference between non-potable water and potable water?

Potable water is water that is safe for human consumption. It has been treated to meet the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016 and Drinking Water Inspectorate guidelines, making it suitable for drinking water applications, welfare facilities, portable accommodation and other uses where water quality must meet drinking water standards.

Non-potable water is not suitable for human consumption. It has not been treated to the same drinking water standards as potable water, but it can provide a cost-effective option for applications where drinking water quality is not required.

For dust suppression, the most suitable option will depend on site requirements, equipment use and any water quality standards specified for the project. Universal Tankers can supply bulk potable water deliveries for construction sites that require clean water for dust suppression systems, bowsers, pressure washer units and wider site operations.
